Creating a FiveM Server Backup
Follow these steps to create a manual backup of your FiveM server:
Ignoring Cache Folder
We strongly recommend excluding the cache folder from your backups. Here's why:
# Add this to your backup exclusion list:
cache/
__resource.lua.cache
*.tmp
*.log
/tmp/
Why exclude cache? The cache folder contains temporary files that are automatically regenerated. It can be several gigabytes in size and backing it up wastes storage space and increases backup time unnecessarily.
Enable Backup Security
Enable the Security option or Lock backup feature to protect your backup from accidental deletion. When enabled:
- You will need to unlock the backup before deleting it
- Prevents accidental loss of important backups
- Adds an extra layer of protection
- Recommended for critical backups
Creating the Backup
After configuring everything, click on Create Backup and wait for the process to complete. You'll see:
Backup time varies depending on your server size (typically 1-10 minutes). The progress bar will show real-time status.
Managing Your Backups
Once the backup is created, you can manage it by clicking on the three dots (⋮) or actions menu next to it:
Download Backup
Download the backup archive to your local device for offline storage. Useful for keeping off-site copies.
Restore Server
Restore the server from this backup. Options include wiping current files or merging with existing files.
Unlock Backup
Disable protection to allow deletion. Required before deleting a secured backup.
Delete Backup
Permanently remove the backup from storage. Free up space when backups are no longer needed.
Restore Options Details
When restoring from a backup, you typically have these options:
Warning: Restoring will temporarily stop your server. Plan restores during off-peak hours and notify your players in advance.

Off-site Storage
Keep at least one backup downloaded to your local device or cloud storage.
Smart Exclusion
Always exclude cache folders and temporary files to save space and time.
Security Enabled
Use backup security/lock features for critical backups to prevent accidental deletion.
Pre-Update Backups
Always create a backup before installing updates, new scripts, or major changes.
